History through the president’s words
With the help of Wayne Fields, a professor of English and American Culture Studies at Washington University in St. Louis, and Mark Liberman, a linguist at the University of Pennsylvania, The Washington Post analysed the 117 State of the Union addresses, given by 20 US presidents (with some presidents giving two addresses a year). This visualization shows the number of times each word was used in each address and if it was used by a democrat or a republican president.
