A Disappearing Planet

"A Disappearing Planet" is an interactive visualization from ProPublica, inspired by Elizabeth Kolbert book "The Sixth Extinction". According to the book, animal species are going extinct anywhere from 100 to 1,000 times the rates that would be expected under natural conditions. This visualization shows which is the level of risk of each species. The user is able to filter by order: Mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and birds.
